The Area is the basis for a variety of facility management processes.

The resource “space” is important, because it is the most expensive and least flexible commodity of an enterprise and because many costs can be treated on an area basis. Thus area management is also considered the basis for a number of services of infrastructural facility management (IFM). For this reason it often is seen as a part of IFM. Although costs are incurred on all sub-areas of the building, they are distributed to the areas on which the value is created.

All necessary attributes referring to a room and its equipment are contained in the “room book” The spatial data can be compared to or read from CAD plans. Therefore it is possible to calculate surface area polygons.
